New album Fragments of Longing available now.

For as long as I can remember I have been enchanted by music, especially the first time I heard Indian music.

I started playing the guitar when I was sixteen and after searching across various different styles (folk, ragtime, classical, flamenco and jazz) I heard two albums by musicians who played music the way I’d wanted to for years - but didn’t think you were allowed to. These were Dança das Cabeças by Egberto Gismonti and The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett.

From then on I started to develop my own voice, literally, as I developed a style which included singing without words, and also using the texture of the sound as much as the melody. This led me to play many different instruments from different traditions, including studying the sitar in Kullu valley in the foothills of the Himalayas, playing the santoor and most recently the Armenian duduk, which for me is the most beautiful instrument in the world.
